CEMETERY INFORMATION & POLICIES

Burial Requirements:

A funeral home is required for all burials and cremation urn placement. The funeral home must notify the association of the death; the association will mark the burial site.

When the burial of the urn is made, a brick or stepping stone must be placed on top of the urn. This makes it possible for the burial to be verified in the future.

Pet burials are allowed only if the pet has been cremated and the ashes are placed in the owner’s plot. Ashes may be placed in the urn, casket, or sprinkled on the grave. No plots or graves will be specifically sold for pets.

Monuments:

The association must be notified when a marker is to be set in the cemetery. Measurements must be made to ensure the marker is placed on the proper lot. The size of the monuments should be no larger than 5 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 30 inches deep.

Memorial Day Decorations/Flowers:

The association asks that decorations be picked up by July 1. When floral decorations wilt or become weather-beaten, they will be disposed of.

Entrance to Cemetery:

The east end of the cemetery is now marked as the entrance and the southwest end is the exit.

Mowing:

The association keeps the cemetery mowed weekly through the summer months. Mowing expense was $9,100 in 2022.

Cemetery Association History:

The Arrow Rock Cemetery Association was formed when the town board turned the administration of the cemetery over to a group of volunteer women in 1911. The original cemetery was one acre. Additional lands were added in 1868 and 1928.
